The MG Car Club’s inaugural Ride Before You Buy event, held at Abingdon Vale Cricket Club on Sunday October 4, proved a tremendous success, bringing together MG enthusiasts, prospective owners and a wonderful selection of cars.
The idea was simple: to give those considering classic MG ownership the opportunity to experience the cars first-hand, chat with knowledgeable owners and discover the benefits of belonging to the MG Car Club.
Throughout the day, 36 passenger rides were enjoyed, with plenty of smiling faces returning from trips around Abingdon. Alongside the rides was an impressive display of MGs, ranging from pre-war Triple M models to the latest offerings from MG Motor, kindly brought along by local dealer Waylands.
Visitors also enjoyed meeting former Abingdon factory employees, exploring the various displays and receiving advice from Club members and Registers. Beech Hill Garage, local craft traders and Abingdon Vale Cricket Club all contributed to the welcoming atmosphere.
The event also raised valuable funds for Abingdon Food Bank.
With overwhelmingly positive feedback, discussions are already underway about repeating the event in October 2027.
Ride Before You Buy perfectly demonstrated what the MG Car Clubs are all about: you join for the cars, but stay for the people!.
Perhaps an event we could replicate in Portugal in the future.
