Ervideira is a Portuguese winery that has been producing its wines since 1880. It is currently run by the 4th and 5th generations of the Leal da Costa family. With Duarte Leal da Costa (father) as director, Duarte (son) and Bernardo oversee the Wine Tourism and Commercial areas, respectively. Today, Ervideira has 120 hectares of vineyards, spread across two agricultural estates: Monte da Ribeira in Vidigueira and Herdadinha/Vendinha in Reguengos de Monsaraz.
Since the beginning of its production, Ervideira has been on a mission to create truly unique and exclusive wines. Our wines pay genuine tribute to the man from whom we inherited our love for the land, the sun, the vineyard, and wine – “O Conde D’Ervideira” (The Count of Ervideira). These are the values that guide us and which we seek to pass on to future generations. Guided by the legacy left to us, we base our work on a set of values that blend tradition and innovation, aiming for a distinctive market position through the creation of successes such as Invisível and Conde D’Ervideira Vinho D’Água.
For those who know our Alentejo, the harsh summer sun can reach up to 50ºC (122ºF) during the day. Demonstrating its innovative DNA, Ervideira adopted night harvesting and refrigerated truck grape transport back in 2000. Without sun exposure and at lower temperatures, this process preserves the natural properties of the grapes. One of its key benefits is that fermentation only begins once the grapes arrive at the winery, ensuring the extraordinary freshness of our wines. This has made Ervideira the only winery in Alentejo that sells more white wine than red.
