MOTORCLÁSSICO

February 23 to 25, 2024
Cordoaria Nacional, Lisboa
National

In yet another edition of this Show, four anniversary brands held commemorative exhibitions:

  • 50 Years of the Volkswagen Golf
  • 70 Years of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (the famous "gull wings")
  • 90 Years of the Citroën Traction Avant
  • 100 Years of the MG

And in relation to what matters to us, the Caramulo Museum announced the MG Centenary as follows:

“The Motorclássico Show, dedicated to the universe of classic vehicles and scheduled for the 23rd, 24th and 25th of February, will celebrate an absolutely memorable event: MG’s 100 years.

MG (from Morris Garages) started out as a division of Morris Cars, set up by Cecil Kimber to produce the company's faster and sportier niche models. 1924 marks the year in which, in May, the octagon is established as its trademark and, in September, the MG 14/28 is unveiled.

In a short period of time, MG became known for its sporty two-seater convertibles and was the first non-Italian brand to win the Mille Miglia in 1933 with the K3. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Motorclássico Show will host tours, themed exhibitions and Motor Talks alluding to the British brand, as well as the presence of several models such as the MG TA (1938), the MGA (1959), the MGB (1973), the MG TF (2002) and the new MG4 XPOWER, the first of the new generation of compact electric sports cars, which accelerates to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds."

With the MG cars on display, we would like to thank Victor Gonzalez, our Member No. 28, for lending us his MG Midget TA, as we wanted to exhibit models from the 30s, 50s, 70s and millennium.

So that we would be surrounded by Members on Saturday, we guaranteed them parking next to the Museu Nacional dos Coches, sent them invitations and had some of them join us for a Motor Talk with Adelino Dinis about the birth of the MG brand (Member J. Silva Carvalho); the founding and action of the MGCP (Member Isabel Tinoco); and the launch of the new MG EV sports cars (Sales Manager and Network Development MG / PT Ricardo Lotra).

Other activities took place in parallel throughout the weekend and we once again met Eng. José Barros Rodrigues, who was there to present his book “Porsche 550 Spyder em Portugal – O Primeiro Ano 1955”.
