Event dedicated to specialists, enthusiasts and curious minds in the art of maintenance, at the place where the Idea to create the MG Clube de Portugal was born

A group of members from the MG Clube de Portugal, accompanied by their guests, took part in a special event jointly organized with Alexandra Ribeiro from the TAP Communications Department. The initiative was divided into two distinct but equally enriching parts.

Part 1 – Visit to the TAP Maintenance Centre

After checking in at the TAP facilities and with the MGs parked on display — much to the delight of both members and TAP staff — the group began their visit to the airline’s maintenance workshops.

TAP Air Portugal operates one of the largest maintenance centers in Europe, located at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon. With three hangars capable of accommodating up to 10 aircraft simultaneously, the center performs a wide range of services, including inspections, repairs, and component upgrades.

The visit to Hangar 6, guided by Engineer Diogo Pedrosa, included the observation of:

  • A 6-year maintenance check on an Airbus A330neo
  • An intervention on an Airbus A330-200 undergoing engine repairs

One of the highlights was the opportunity to enter the cockpit of the A330-200, where some members received a hands-on explanation of the aircraft’s instruments from our Founding Member, Captain Gouveia Fonseca.

Part 2 – MGB Restoration Workshop — Vitor Pires shares his experience

After a group lunch at the TAP cafeteria, our member Vitor Pires gave a detailed presentation on the restoration of his MGB, a project he carried out entirely in his own garage over the course of roughly a year.

The restoration included bodywork and paint, suspension repairs, engine interventions, and electrical system repairs, among other things. Not a single part was left unchecked or unrepaired.

The session was highly interactive, with the participation of several TAP employees, and included the exchange of experiences with other MG members who had undergone similar restoration projects. The event concluded with a visit to Vitor Pires’s fully restored MGB, where attendees could admire the quality of the work firsthand.
