Official presentation of the CYBERSTER
Throughout the afternoon of Friday, Members arrived at the Viseu Garden Hotel and those who didn't want to miss the guided tour of the Quartz Museum - Galopim de Carvalho Interpretation Centre learned that the lode of milky quartz was mined by the ‘Cia Portuguesa de Fornos Elétricos’, from Canas de Senhorim, on Monte de Sta Luzia, between 1961 and 1986. They were able to admire the diverse collection and realise the importance of this mineral in our daily lives. Before returning to the hotel, a visit to the Miradouro de Santa Luzia made them realise the grandeur of the city of Viseu.
With more weekend companions, the group dinner took place at the Restaurante Estrela de Vermum and ended with long life wishes to the birthday Ana Maria Sousa.
On Saturday, as planned, the long MGista caravan with its P2 sign headed towards Caramulo. Once there and overcoming the initial resistance from the local authorities, Hélder Correia took us to the CEC - Caramulo Experience Centre, where we had reserved parking space. In the meantime, it had started to rain, so we extended our visit to this space of over 2,400m2, where a classic car restoration and maintenance workshop and the reserves of the Museu do Caramulo collection make up an exhibition area.
Back in the rain, we made our way to P2 where other MG cars were already parked. They were the ones who started our programme there.
Depending on their interests and the rain protection they had, everyone dispersed until lunch time, which was served to the group in the Museum's Cloister, while it was clear that the weather was improving.
After the meal, some didn't want to miss the temporary exhibition ‘A Passion on Wheels - André Villas-Boas Collection’ and visit or revisit the Museu do Caramulo in its two aspects: art and cars.
In P2, Soveco, set up across the street, displayed MG ev models and welcomed anyone interested in seeing them. The Cyberster was there for a short while because it showed off its performance on the Michelin Historic Hillclimb more than once.
With sunshine and clear skies, the P2 space received numerous visitors and the ‘Air Show by BP Ultimate’ surprised everyone with the low flights and acrobatics performed by several aircraft.
Once the ramp races were over, it was time to follow the Cyberster and the 1932 MG Midget J2, driven by Pedro Villas-Boas, who kept in touch with Isabel Tinoco throughout the day.
Back on the route through Santiago de Besteiros, Portelada and Caparrosa, we arrived at Campo de Vermum to enjoy an excellent group dinner at the Restaurante Santa Luzia.
On Sunday, with the freedom to rest until later, the MG caravan easily covered the 29 kilometres that led to Casa da Ínsua. Belonging to the Montebelo Hotels & Resorts chain, it is the only Portuguese hotel to be included in the prestigious Spanish Paradores de Turismo chain and has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1984.
As expected, Miguel Couto guided the tour of the Solar dos Albuquerque, a magnificent 18th century Baroque Palace, and took us to the room where the exclusive “MG Centenary Lunch” was served, ending with the presentation of various souvenirs and the opening of the Commemorative Cake, which was accompanied by the Casa da Ínsua sparkling wine.
